BarnAustin, the Sheep, Naked - Page 4Barn
His First Haircut - 06 May 2002
with Update 27 March 2004

Austin was getting pretty darn hairy!  Our neighbors have a large number of sheep and they had a sheerer coming to clip them.  They volunteered to come get Austin when the sheerer came and get his hair clipped along with their sheep.  They had to take Dallas the goat, too, because they didn't like being apart.  They were so happy to see us when we went to check on them that evening.  It must have been a harrowing experience, because ever since that day they haven't left our pasture like they used to.  I guess Austin finally realized he wasn't a cow after all ! Austin naked. Close your eyes, kids !!
Austin - naked !!
They got a 50 pound feed sack full of fleese from him.
He looks like he lost about 50 pounds !  They put his collar and bell back on when they got through.
Austin and Dallas don't like being apart.
They penned Austin and Dallas separately for some reason.  Maybe so that the sheerers would know Dallas wasn't a sheep ?

We waited too long to get Austin "fixed" so he had a lot of Testosterone in his system and he's gotten very aggressive lately.  Justine has had to jump into the hay feeder numerous times to get away from him, or use Jackpot as a shield. He was our first non- feathered livestock, so Justine cried when he was taken away..

Johnny Ray, our neighbor's ranch foreman picked Austin up in their stock trailer on 25 March 2004 and he was taken to the Mills County auction where he bought $30 per 100 lbs the next day. He weighed 245 pounds and sold for about $70.  We just hope he'll be used to produce wool.
