We used 4" x 6" splice plates as "door stops" at the corners of the doors (opposite the hinges) inside the pen. The also helped position the vertical 2x4 which frame the door. This is at the top of the door. |
This one is installed at the bottom of the door inside the pen. |
The first totally competed pen with chicken wire mounted and 4" of pine shavings for deep litter. The roosts are built and installed on the next photo page, and the nest boxes have yet to be built and installed. |
During
my vacation from July 3 to July 10, 2000
we were able to complete 6 of the eight pens except for the nest boxes, for which the lumber is cut, but we haven't put them together yet. We only lack 2 pieces of chicken wire to finish the last two pens. Details of roost construction is on the next page. More to Come next weekend. |
While we were filling the pens with pine shavings, Justine thought a hummingbird was flying around in the barn. It finally landed and I was able to get a couple of pictures. |
It turned out to be what I think is called a hummingbird moth. This big sucker was 4 inches long with spooky black eyes! |
