Barn
February and March, 2000
Gardening Room
Our gardening room off the back yard (the rear end of our workshop). The corner of our well house is in the foreground.
Bill & Jo Holley's House across the street
Bill & Jo Holley's house across the road from us.
Their guineas come over and play with ours.
This is one of only two neighboring houses visible from our house.
Mallard nest 3/2000
One of Justine's Mallard hens set a nest of 19 eggs and hatched out 15 ducklings.  Only these four didn't hatch.
Justine in Old Barn waving
Justine feeding in the old barn.
Pete's 1985 S-10 Pickup - 2 weeks worth of feed
My 1985 Chevy S-10 pickup just returned from Brown's  Feed Store in Lampasas with two weeks worth of  feed.  Our birds get more groceries than we do !!
Lawn Tractor by Old Barn
One of our lawn tractors at the old barn.  We use it to haul water in 5 gallon buckets to water the birds.  It's parked in front of our Barred Rock laying flock's coop.

Justine was pulling sacks of potting soil from under the table in the gardening room and this young diamondback rattlesnake was curled up under one of the sacks.  She let out a blood curdling scream and I came running.  The Zippo is there to show scale.  The "one-button" snake was about 12" long. From the swollen middle, it looks like it's just ate a handful of crickets or a baby mouse.
Rattler and Ruger 22
This Ruger .22 caliber Blackhawk revolver with "rat" shot shells did him in quickly without endangering anyone with ricochets off the cement floor.  This is only the second rattler I've encountered since I bought the farm in 1971.
Squirrel in back yard tree
A family of squirrels has made their home in the big hackberry tree in our back yard.  Here's one of them checking out the feeders.
