Jackpot
pushed out the rear wall of his stall Friday night, June 21. We went
to Lowe's Saturday and picked up enough new tin and lumber to rebuild it.
We decided to go ahead and replace the back wall in both Sara's and Jackpot's
stall. I originally built this barn over 30 years ago and the wood
was getting pretty old. Our neighbor's ranch hands were replacing
the fence between his property and ours at the same time and had to cut
down two 30 year old trees behind the barn. One was about to split
and fall on the barn and the new fence, the other was directly in the way
of the fence. It worked out okay because it gave us better access
to the back of the barn to facilitate the repairs. We tore down the
old tin and lumber, and replaced it with new pressure treated 2x6 lumber
and new tin. All new lumber and tin was installed with power drive screws
to make repairs easier if needed later. We had a heck of a time tearing
down the old wall using a sledge hammer and 4 foot crowbar.

We'll replace the rest
of the back wall at a later date when it's cooler. It was 100°f
the day we did this. |
