I recently moved to France. I have gone from being a Londoner to a country person in beautiful Brittany. With this comes 6 hens. I was concerned because one of them likes to roost on the fence and I was worried that I would loose her.Somebody recommended your web site. I have found it very educational. Thank you.

I realy enjoyed your site. I had a stroke in July 2000. Some things have come back but some have not. I haven't had a chicken in a number of years. I know I want Modern game bantams. Just a few, so I can take care of them myself. I had 4 or 5 in 1975. But their gone now. The vert best for you and your family. Robert

Hi Pete,
I found your site while trying find an answer to a chicken question. I got caught up in the wonderful pictures of your farm life. I felt as if I'd actually dropped in for a visit. I felt terrible when I read what happened to you, and then the divorce. Been through one of those myself. I sure hope things have gotten better for you. And I really hope you keep this site going. It has great information on it.
Best wishes from one animal lover to another.

I am so sorry to hear about your stroke (CVA).Although I am not a poultry breeder rather a General Surgeon but still I like to visit various poultry sites and read articles about breeding chicken and gamebirds etc. It has always been my dream and desire to have a small farm.
I think I visited your site somewhere in 2000.Your site is really the most informative and full of practical tips and I am sure it must have been of great benefit to the poultry community around the world. All I can say "get well soon".Don't be dishearted by your inability to move.I have seen many people walking after stroke, Just always think positively.

I raise a small flock of birds here at my farm and love every minute of it. Your site provides GREAT information for us newbies. My wife had a stroke which ultimately took her life in 2000. I think it's rather unfair of your lady to do what she did. Some people are worth not being around.

Mr.Pete, I have been enjoying your website very much for several hours. I love animals very much and have been looking to add some chickens to my green acres. Wanting to know as much as I could... I was able to gleen so much information. I can tell a lot of hard work and a lot of heart has gone into this site, your ranch is even more impressive. I'm sure I'll be getting some birds and the information I found here will help me a great deal. Thank you so much, and God Bless you & Justine.

I am planning on starting a small home flock, and possibly being a resource on raising poultry to those folks who are beginners. I had a flock of chickens about 20 yrs ago, then had to stop for a while to raise my kids and go to nursing school.THANK YOU for this site. I am planning my new coop and have gotten some very good info here. May God Bless you. When he closes a door, he opens a window, but it can be hell in the hallway. Keep on going and remember you are a blessing to all who appreciate your life and good advice! I found tis site when I googled chicken brooders.

I enjoy your site. thanks for keeping it open.
I raise a variety of dual purpose chickens. I found a good article in a "Chickens" magazine which describes many breeds. It tells the expected hens' weight, egg size, color, and production rate. It is a little different than some of the hype hatcheries give us.

I usually only have a few (25)chickens (I like white rocks, but I didn't even KNOW there were white cochins, and will look them up next time I buy more chicks.)I have had barred rocks, blue cochins, New Hampshire Reds, but find the pigment stays in the skin so they are more difficult to "clean up" at butchering time.
Yes, pricing eggs is a puzzle cuz $1.00/dozen isn't at all a break-even price.
Your site is a treasure for knowledge, and I have just found it. I'm sorry to hear of your troubles, and hope you have God in your life to keep you coping.

Love your site! We are transpants from your area and still own a
house in Killeen. We now live in the country 80 miles north of Houston.
Jim works off shore and I maintain our little house in the "woods". I
bought a bantam hen and rooster at a local flea market and we just love
them. They were about six weeks old and are now laying and crowing!
Your site is really helpful. Good luck and hope to visit you on our
